Google Wave - What You Need to know ??

You may have seen the twitterverse ablaze with Google Wave mentions. So much so that it has been a trending topic since Lars and Jens Rasmussen showed a tech preview at the Google I/O event recently. But what is Google Wave really? What does it mean to you and me? What will you need to know so you don't get washed away by the tide when your friends invite you to their wave?

Google Wave is "the next big thing" due to come out of the Mountain View technology powerhouse at the end of this year. It's an email, instant messaging, blog, wiki and document collaboration platform all in one, amazing package. It will be mostly open source and highly extensible. You won't have to run it hosted on Google's servers, you will be able to use it on that old gaming rig turned server that you have in your basement.

Features and game changing technology mashups aside, the biggest challenge I foresee with the adoption of Google Wave is breaking the millions of years old human tradition of thinking linearly. Waves allow you to respond to conversations or document elements as they appear in the past. If you want to respond to a message sent 10 messages ago, you click on that message and reply. Your reply doesn't show up at the bottom of the thread like in traditional email or IM, instead it pops up right underneath what you replied to. The same holds true for when you initiate a wave in the form of a collaborative document. Edits anywhere in the document can be inserted at any time.

The second biggest acclimation users will face is the fact that everything is real time. This means you can see what people are creating and editing as they type (fortunately this can be disabled for all of us bad spellers). More importantly however, this means you can see the changes other people are making to a document, image library, poll or anything right as it is happening. You don't need to save it, attach it to an email and send it to a distribution list, it is all right there happening before your eyes.

Fortunately Wave has a feature that will help you find all of the changes you missed since you last checked a wave. Replay, like a DVR recording of your favorite show lets you see communications as they happened in sequence. You can see all of the changes made to a wave at any point, at your own pace. Most of the time viewing the final document or conversation is enough. But, for the times when certain replies or edits don't make sense a replay can make it clear who did what, when and where.

There are gobs more features and demos I could dive in to but I think this is a good start for those who just need the basics. This is the very tip of the iceberg. I can only hope Google Wave will be as open and extensible as its creators claim.

Watch out, if Google Wave really takes off it could change the way we communicate both at home and at work. To find out more and to sign up to be notified when it is released, head over to http://wave.google.com. Also, let me know what you think of Wave by commenting below.

Fake Facebook Profiles ??!??

fake facebook profiles Fake Facebook Profiles are one of the most annoying and even dangerous issues that facebookers (facebook users) face, and one of the most challenging problems for the facebook admins, so efforts to eliminate such profiles are set to the max!

According to breaking weird news, Facebook Fake Profiles were dangerous enough to get some guy from Morocco arrested for making a fake facebook profile for Prince Moulay Rachid, the younger brother of King Mohammed VI.
Expensive enough to get another one sued by £17,000 for damages against a former schoolfriend accused of putting a fake gay profile of some businessman on the social networking website Facebook.
And serious enough for the Dean of one of the biggest colleges at Cambridge to set up a fake Facebook profile to keep an eye on his students after they have formed a protest group to complain about a change in drinking laws.

Why would people create fake facebook profiles?

  1. Shallow relationships: "lovers" testing and teasing each others, teasing by fake comments of fake profiles, testing each other by fake flirts or  msgs!
  2. Monitoring: monitering people (students, employees ... ) lives by fake personalities!
  3. Business: forcing some business to grow by making it popular through many profiles!
  4. Revenge: broken people creating humiliating fake profiles for those who hurt them!
  5. Psychos: males creating profiles for females and vice versa.
  6. Some people are just sick: stupid pointless people like to fool around!

So here are some tips to guide you detect fake facebook profiles:

How to know a facebook profile is fake?

  1. If you are not a good looking guy and got added by a hot chick!
  2. If you got added by a celebrity!
  3. If you see nothing but Adds Feeds (... is now friends with ...) in the "feeds" section!
  4. If the "wall" is full of msgs like: "thanks for the add"!
  5. If it has one profile picture only!
  6. If it has many pictures but none is tagging any other profiles!
  7. If it's not tagged by others!
  8. If it's public, no privacy settings for anything!
  9. If birthday is 01/01 (no offense real ones LOL but because it's the fastest choice)!
  10. If it has many friends from all over the world (no specific region)!
  11. If it joins and attends all groups and events sent by all!
  12. If the "Interested In" section is all checked: (Women and Men)
  13. If the "Looking For" section is all checked (friendship, dating, a relationship, networking, and whatever I can get)!
